Black magic cocktail
- First.Pour the vodka into a measuring jug and add the food colouring, a drop at a time, until you have a good black colour.
- Take 4 tall, narrow glasses and divide the orange juice between them. Add 1 tsp of grenadine to each glass, this creates a cool sunrise effect. Using the back of a spoon slowly and carefully pour the black vodka onto each of the drinks in turn, it will sit on the top in a neat layer. Serve immediately with a liquorice twist in each glass.
Frankenstein's punch
- Ingredients
- 850g (1 3/4lb) lychees in syrup
- 9 black grapes
- 9 white grapes
- 1 ltr (1 3/4pt) sugar-free ginger beer
- 1 ltr (1 3/4pt) sugar-free limeade or lemonade
- green food colouring gel
- With fiery ginger beer, tangy limeade and scary monster's eyeballs, this spooky punch is a great Halloween party idea that will definitely be a hit with your little ones this Halloween.
- Drain the lychees, reserving the juice. Stuff the lychees with the grapes. Divide the lychee ‘eyeballs’ between 6 tumblers.
- Put the reserved lychee juice in a large jug with the ginger beer and limeade or lemonade. Add enough food colouring to turn the liquid a bright green. Pour it over the ‘eyeballs’ just before serving.

Moonrise mocktail
- Mix the orange juice with a few drops of green liquid food colouring. Pour into a highball glass filled with ice. Pour grenadine down the side of the glass so it sinks to the base.
- Unroll a liquorice wheel, trim and cut the end into a point so it resembles a snake’s head. Use to decorate the glass, along with the jelly snakes and the laces.
Bat's blood punch with dragon eyes
- Ingredients
- 500ml (17fl oz) pomegranate juice
- 400ml (3/4pt) pink lemonade
- 2 limes, juiced
- 400g (13oz) lychees in syrup, plus 100ml (3 1/2fl oz) of syrup from the jar
This gruesome bat's blood punch with juicy dragon eyes is sure to go down a storm with the kids. If you're making this spooky cocktail for adults, add a shot of vodka or gin to each drink, along with a few ice cubes.

Hot buttered rum with apple, cider and cinnamon (Sinister Drink)
An American spin on a classic hot toddy, this rum cocktail makes a deliciously warming drink that's perfect for chilly autumn and winter evenings. The gentle spices of the rum and cinnamon are balanced with sweet maple syrup, apple juice and cider, with melted butter for a rich, luxurious finish.
- In a large pan, melt the butter, maple syrup and cinnamon over a low heat.
- Increase the heat to medium, add the rum and leave to simmer for 1 minute. Pour in the apple juice and apple cider and heat for 2-3 minutes more, or until warmed through.
- Line up 6 heatproof mugs and put a cinnamon stick in each. Top up with the hot drink and serve immediately, garnished with a little grated nutmeg.
